Default SSIS Configuration problem - 04-24-2006 , 03:26 PM

Was having a wonderful time with Integration Services until I
uninstalled/re-installed SQL Server 2005. I now am unable to create or edeit
e.g. DataFlow Tasks.

Clicking on "Click here to add a new Data Flow task" in Data Flow pane gives
the following error:
-----------
TaskHost "{C3BF9DC1-4715-4694-936F-D3CFDA9E42C5}"' is not installed
correctly on this computer. (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design)
-----------

If I try to add a Data Flow Task in the Control Flow Pane, it appears
graphically but all properties for the DF Task say:
------------
Could not get value for property 'eea3f075-36b7-45c7-a991-5b92cc020056'.
Specified cast is not valid.
------------

On further investigation it appears that any dll resident in
.....\90\DTS\Binn\ has the same problem, meaning that other tasks are also
unavailable.

I've spent 24 hours trying to fix this problem - completely uninstalling and
re-installing SQL Server & Visual Studio several times, cleaning up in
between, searching forums and newsgroups but all to no availl.

Any ideas??

John,

You say that you have uninstalled and installed multiple times. That
makes it impossible to accurately guess the situation on your machine,
in my view.

I am not sure exactly what you mean by "cleaning up in between". You
may or may not have already tried what I am going to suggest.

Given your multiple attempts to fix the problem I would suggest you
consider msicuu2.exe. Have a look at the information at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301. There is a
download link on that page. Backup any important data before
proceeding.

The procedure is not without risk but given what you describe I
suspect the next step would be an HD format and reinstall of the OS.

Before taking this approach you may want to wait to see if other
suggested approaches are forthcoming.

Thank you for the prompt response.

I have actually tried msicuu2 (that was part of my cleanup).

I'll keep trying for a little while, but am getting close to a re-install of
the entire PC.

Thanks again.
