Default RE: SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition backward compatibility - 10-06-2008 , 12:13 PM

What if we upgrade to 2008 Developer Edition, will we still be able to get
onto 2000 edition servers or does the backwards compatibility only revert
back one edition.. being 2005???

Hello Mike,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Community Support. This is Mark.
I'm glad to assist you with the issue.

To answer your question:
Q: Is there possibility to install only SQL Server 2008 Developer edition
and to have Visual Studio 2008 Profession to
create SSIS and SSAS projects for SQL Server 2005 ? As like as
creating projects for Framework 1.0, 2.0 in Visual
Studio 2008?
A: No,To create a SSIS and SSAS projects for SQL Server , we need to
install Business Intelligence Development Studio. It is installed with SQL
Server. Business Intelligence Development Studio is Microsoft Visual Studio
2008 with additional project types that are specific to SQL Server business
intelligence. Business Intelligence Development Studio is the primary
environment that you will use to develop business solutions that include
Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services projects.
Each project type supplies templates for creating the objects required for
business intelligence solutions, and provides a variety of designers,
tools, and wizards to work with the objects.
