Default SQL server 2005 & DTS from SQL 2000 - 02-07-2008 , 08:36 AM

Hi,

We have a new installation : SBS 2003, SQL 2005. this machine replaces a SQL
2000 installed machine.

The problem we've got is that we need to bring the SQL 2000 DTS packages to
the new SQL 2005 server.

i've read that the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)
are required.

i've installed the SQLServer2005_DTS.msi component, nothing appears to have
changed within SQL 2005.
Is anything else required? As we need to be able to run the old DTS packages?

Ian,

If you did not do so, you also need to install the "Microsoft SQL Server
2005 Backward Compatibility Components" from the same page listed in your
post. Install this on the server and the desktop.

Although I am on SQL Server 2005 for many servers, we still have many DTS
packages running the legacy (SQL 2000) DTSRUN command. So, once you get all
the pieces in place, it should all work fine.

Russell,

thanks for replying.
i installed "SQLServer2005_DTS.msi" first and now the "Microsoft SQL Server
2005 Backward Compatibility Components".

Would you recommend that i re-install them in this order?
1. "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components"
2. "SQLServer2005_DTS.msi"

i can't see an option within SQL server management studio for DTS and also
no applications appear within the start menu.

ian

n.b. i've not re-started the server.
