Default SQL 2005 DTS designer add in doesn't work and breaks EM 2000 - 01-11-2006 , 04:11 PM

After installing the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components necessary
to edit legacy DTS packages using Management Studio, I get the
following error when trying to edit DTS packages via 2005 MS: "The DTS
host failed to load or save the package properly." What's worse, after
I install the designer components, my Enterprise Manager (8.0 / 2000)
stops working. I get a messagebox talking about "The procedure entry
point" and SEMSFC.dll.

I understand it needs version 2.6 of MDAC or later, but I have full VS 2005
Enterprise installed/running, so don't think that's it.

I've seen 2 other posts on this board with the same problem, but no reply.
So would appreciate a Microsoft team member or MVP reply.

thanks!

this work. I have posted everywhere on MSDN, etc. and still no

I also encountered this problem after upgrading last week. I did find that I
can change a 2000 DTS package by doing a "Save AS" <NewPackageName>, but then
I need to delete the original package and save the new packagename as the
original package name and delete the new package name. This is a lot of work
just to make a minor maintenance change.

FYI: After the 2005 install I did install the "Helper files" required for
2000 DTS operation. I don't know if that caused the problem or was meant to
fix the problem.

HELP MS!! If we cannot test successfully we will cannot upgrade.

I am also encountering this issue. I installed SQL Server 2000 DTS
Designer Components with SQL 2000 sp3 and 2005 installed. Now I cannot
open 2000 EM. Mark Brown suggests installing SP4, however, that did not
help in my case.
http://blogs.msdn.com/mab/archive/20...18/554466.aspx His scenario
only suggests that would work if you had SP4 installed before
installing SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components. I need to run 2005
and 2000 side by side. HELP!
