Default Some sample of EDI processing into SQL or out of SQL - 05-24-2005 , 04:06 AM

I have a urgent need to use DTS for processing some EDI files to be
loaded into SQL Server and also outputting data in SQL Server to EDI.

Can somebody kindly share a sample EDI file and an ActiveX script you
have built to process this file inbound into SQL Server I would greatly
appreciate the help.

Also, please clarify are there any addons we need to DTS to help in EDI
processing.

Thanks
Karen

To be quite honest I would look elsewhere. There are plenty of existing
tools that support EDI out of the box, but DTS isn't one of them. Since
I'd see you doing all the processing in a script, performance will not
be great compared to compiled languages..

Hi Darren

I spoke to somebody during a SQLPass event and he said they do not use
any other tool except DTS to handle EDI processing unfortunately I do
not have is contact details. We are looking at using BizTalk but the
company is not keen on introducing more tools like Gentran or BizTalk
for EDI Processing.

Thanks
Karen

Well I'm surprised, but if it works then it works. I used Gentran, and
whilst it was not my favourite tool ever, I would never have tried to
process the files I had via DTS, the mapping was so horrific, it would have
taken years to write and test in VBScript. Good luck whichever way you go.
