Default Solution suggestion - 11-22-2005 , 02:15 PM

I need to develop a program to do large data ETL, however, the raw data,
which is in Access mdb file, need to be checked and modified against the
existed data in the database.

- Any better way than loading the raw data into SQL Server?

- Is DTS (or SSIS/ETL, I will use SQL Server 2005) still good in this case?
(User need to manually change the database or loading settings based on the
checking agaist exist SQL tables)

- Or a totally independent program, a Windows.form or asp.net program. Any
good reason not use the built-in DTS/ETL?

DTS can do this but because you do not want to land the data then I
would prefer to use SSIS which is much richer in functionality and is
also ETL vs ELT

You could also look at simply using OPENDATASOURCE() or creating a
linked server.

In my case, there are a lot of user interaction. But it seems SSIS(or DTS) is
better for batch processing...

In either of these tools I would not use them interactively. I would do
all I need to do in terms of setup before executing the package and then
simply let the package go.
