Default slow dts - 10-10-2005 , 10:38 AM

I'm exporting data from SQL 2000 to sybase 11.
the dts is extremly slow (takes over 1 hour for 5000 rows.)
the tables in sybase do not have any indexes.

what can be done to improve performance ?

We would first need to know a lot more details before being able to
prescribe something.

Is this over a network link?
Which driver?
What happens if you use any other tool from the same box to the same box
- faster?
Whaere do you see the bottleneck? SQL Server or Sybase?
Resources being hammered?

answers to questions:

- yes it Is this over a network link
- using sybase 11 odbc driver
- I don't have other tool to test the performance between both boxes, but if
I
execute the same statement used by the dts for the export, it runs in
less than 1
second
- I don't know how and where to check to see where the bottleneck occurring
between both server.

please let me know if you need more info.
thanks for help

Hello,

The cause may be related to the sybase 11 odbc driver. I suggest that you
use other ODBC driver and check the issue again. Please refer to the
following articles:

Sybase IQ version 12.6 with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Data Transformation
Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Report 275, Date: January 2005
http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1034254#overview

INF: ODBC Connections to Sybase SQL Servers
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;137637

------------------
Though older versions of the Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver could be
connected to older versions of Sybase SQL Servers, if you now need to
connect to Sybase SQL Servers you should contact ODBC vendors who are in
the market of providing drivers for Sybase. The current ODBC drivers
provided by Microsoft are optimized to work with Microsoft SQL Server and
depend on features present in the Microsoft product.
-------------------

I hope the information is helpful.
