Default Scheduling a DTS package in SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition - 02-13-2009 , 12:57 PM

Apparently, in this version of SQL Server (as found in Small Business Server
2003 R2 Premium), there doesn't seem to be a complete solution in the
install disks for SSIS. I have installed everything possible from the disks.

So, working with this, I have managed to get legacy support for my DTS
package installed. I am able to create and save the packages.

I have "Analysis Services/Deployment Wizard" as well as "SQL Server Business
Intelligence Development Server" installed.

However, I cannot figure out how to schedule the package for execution. Most
websites discussing the topic usually "peter out" the conversation before
the answer is given.

Is there a complete procedure for scheduling a legacy DTS package in SQL
Server 2005?

Julian

Hello Julian,

Have you considered using DTSRun from the CmdExec? Something like this:

In SSMS:
- Expand SQL Server Agent
- Right-click "Jobs" .. "New Job ..."
- General Tab: Name your job
- Steps Tab: Choose New Step..
- Choose Type: Operating System (CmdExec)
- In Box: DTSRUN /S<servername> /U<user> /P<pass> /N<nameOfPackage>
- Schedule it according to your liking

Final note about cmd-line switches (/S /U, etc): they are case sensitive, so
type carefully.

Let us know how you make out.

Best Regards,
Tom
