Default Quick opinion of DTS needed - 07-08-2003 , 07:45 PM

Hello,
I am writing a paper as part of my masters on ETL tools and I am in need of
user opinions of Microsoft's DTS (pros/cons). Any input would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

DTS rocks now and will continue to do so. It is easy to use and has a great
feature set. It is also FREE. I could go on for hours about how I like it.
There are some things that are fiddly. There are also things that are
missing that other vendors provide. Perhaps MS will provide these for us in
the next major release of SQL Server.

As Allan says it is free to existing users of SQL Server which is a big
bonus especially compared to the price of some alternatives. It is very
powerful and extensible too. It has limitations but most can be overcome
with some ingenuity. It allows standard SQL, and uses core (MS)
technologies such as VBScript and COM, as opposed to it's own language
as some ETL tools do. It is by no means perfect, but what is.

I like it a lot, but if that doesn't answer you question please be more
specific.
