Default Problem Saving to Meta Data Services - 09-10-2003 , 06:41 PM

Any help on the following would be appreciated.

I am migrating several DTS Packages to another server. The packages are
currently saved in Meta Data Services. To perform the migration, I saved
the packages as Structured Storage Files and copied the files to a location
on the C: drive of the new server (it's a stand-alone QA test environment
with one server and two workstations). I then opened the packages in DTS
Designer and tried to save them to Meta Data Services. The Meta Data
Services location shows up in the drop-down but when I click OK I get an
error message telling me that a path (not specified) was not found.

I thought the problem might be that I hadn't checked the Enable Save To Meta
Data Services box (right-click Data Transformation Services node in
Enterprise Manager, then Properties) - although this normally precludes the
Meta Data Services location from even showing up in the Save As, Location,
drop-down. In attempting to check the status of the Enable Save To Meta
Data Services box, I found that the Meta Data Services portion of the
Package Properties screen was not even present.

The packages were developed on a server running SQL Server 2000/SP2. The
QA server has SQL Server 2000/SP3 installed. Currently there is nothing
stored in Meta Data Services on the QA server. I have searched every where
I can think of but I have not found any references to this specific problem
(i.e., path not found error and no Meta Data Services properties displayed
under Data Transformation Services, Properties).

Theories I am currently pursuing: 1) some sort of permissions problem,
perhaps associated with the msdb data base, 2) need to update information
models (I vaguely remember reading something somewhere about the need to do
this after applying SP2), and 3) reference to a path in the package that
does not exist on the server (seems like that would be an issue when the
package is run rather than when it is saved).

Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
