Default Problem importing excle file with unicode character - 07-05-2005 , 04:55 AM

Hi everybody, I'm trying to copy an excel file that contains a column where
there is a description with Unicode characters.
When I use the DTS and ask to create the chart (all the nvarchar fields from
255), it works correctly, without any mistakes.
When I see the chart, a lot of question marks appear in the field with the
Unicode characters (this happens both with the Query Analizer and with the
enterprise manager).
What did I get wrong?

Sir,

Are you importing from Excel into a SQL Server table?

I created an Excel spreadsheet with a column that contains Cyrillic text
(copied from the microsoft.public.ru.sqlserver newsgroup). Then I used the
Import / Export Wizard to create a destination table in SQL Server 2000 and
to import the data. I see the Cyrillic text without error in Enterprise
Manager and in Query Analyzer.

Are you doing the same thing?

The Excel spreadsheet have more than a column, only one column contain
Cyrillic text and Italian text. When I use the Preview in the Import / Export
Wizard i see all the column without any error.
When I try to see the table with Query Analyzer or with Enterprise Manager
the column with the Unicode text appear "????????????" ...

Paolo,

I need to investigate this for you. I am not an expert in globalization
issues. I am surprised that you have not received an answer in the
Italian-language newsgroup, since this problem can affect other languages
also. Note that this is not specifically a Unicode issue...the Cyrillic
alphabet has no more characters than Italian or English, and does not
require double bytes.

I encourage you to write to me directly so that I can contact you more
quickly. Please remove "online." from the reply address.

Are you storing the Cyrillic text in a Unicode column (nvarchar, ntext) in
SQL Server?

On the Advanced tab of the Regional and Language Options dialog in the
Control Panel, is the Cyrillic code page in the list of selected "Code page
conversion tables" ?
