Default Missing Connection Objects in DTS Toolbar - 01-10-2005 , 04:01 PM

Hello,

I have a issue with missing and non-operational Connection objects on the
DTS Toolbar. I am using SQL Server 2000 in a Windows 2000 environment.

The following connection objects are missing:
Excel,
Access,
Dbase5,
HTML,
Paradox

and Microsoft Data Link and Other ODBC Sources will not work.

Please, can anyone help? I seem to have lost the objects after installing
certain software (not 100% nailed down), but uninstalls of applications and
re-installs of MDAC/SQL Server utilities, and Jet do not help.

Anyone know how can I get these drivers wiped clean so a re-install will fix
the corruption?

Michael Cheng [MSFT] was helping someon with the same problem (see below),
but nothing has worked so far...

Thanks much,

Brian O'Connell, DBA

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your reply!

I think we'd better perform the following steps to narrow down this issue:

1. Backup the file c:\windows\sqlstp.log and c:\windows\sqlsp.log first

2. Re-Install SQL Server Client Tools
We are able to reinstall SQL Server Client Tools only from SQL Server Setup
Disk

3. Assuming it is the Server A that you are not able to see connection
objects. Use Server B, which could see all connection objects as expected
when it's SQL Server Enterprise Manager connects to (local). Register
Server A in Server B's Enterprise Manager, then open DTS package in Server
A to see whether you could see all connection objects in the Server A's
Enterprise Manager.

4. Follow the Knowledge base article below to re-install SQL-DMO

INF: Enabling SQL DMO Clients Without Installing the Client Side Utilities
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/248241

5. If all these steps fails, please send me the files you backuped in step
1. I would like to confirm that all DLL are registered correctly. My email
is v-mingqc (AT) online (DOT) microsoft.com (please remove "online" as it's only for
SPAM)

Thank you for your patience and corporation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We are always here to be of
assistance!

Unfortunately I would have done as per Michael.

Have you tried also registering the DTS dlls manually? This does sound more
MDAC relted though.

I have also had problem with things like this and believe it or not
registering the single dll MSADO15.dll fixed it.

Thanks for the try. I started with the dll you mentioned to no avail, then
moved on to all the others both ado and mdac common area folders. Still
nothing.

This is very frustrating because I also support many apps that I have to
load and if I re-image, all the rebuilding and then it will just happen again
when I hit the bad app. Our department even gets charged a good sum for
re-images and on top of that I have a boss that does not believe in
re-imaging!

Thanks anyway,
Brian

I am also having this problem and I have tried the various solutions
posited. My problem seems to have been caused by me uninstalling one
of several beta applications from my system. I had the VFP9 beta, the
VS2005 beta and the .Net 2.0 betas installed and removed them.
I have reregistered every DLL listed in the different messages,
including msado15.dll. I have done random checks for the different
DLLs and they all appear to be in the registry.
I was having trouble performing a refresh install of SQL Server 2000
Personal Edition. It kept saying that I had pending file changes to be
made. I fixed this and refreshed SQL Server and the 3a patch. I
cannot install the latest Jet4 patch (version 8) as it is incompatible
with Windows XP Pro SP2. ADO2.8 is similarly incompatible with my OS.
When I look at the list of OLEDB/ODBC providers as specified by Michael
Cheng, however, I do *not* see the Jet drivers listed.
I am at my wits' end. Does anyone have any ideas?
