Importring files with non standard column numbers

I'm trying to import a file that has rows with different
number of columns.
DTS fails when it encounters when it encounters one of
these rows.
How can I check the columns in the row and skip importing
the dud one before dts tries to import.

I'm choosing a subset of the columns using active x
scripting
