Default FTP failed - 12-04-2003 , 10:28 AM

I am having trouble running the FTP. When diagnosed, the
problem relates to issuing the "ls" command at remote
server, eg. nothing happens after the "ls" command, so the
FTP job hangs. Any idea how it can be rectified?

Hi Oliver,

Are you using the FTP Task or a command file with a config file? Is
there logging turned on for the task? Is there logging on the FTP server
itself? Is the package logging it's exceptions? Are you positive that
you're logged in before the ls command happens?

Hi Don

Well, because it didn't work, we manually went to DOS
promopt and ftp directly. Having logged in successfully,
we then issued the "ls" command, all we see is..

200 Command Prompt Successfull
150 Opening ascii mode data connection for file list

nothing happens, it just hangs..

However, we can do other sites without problem. So is it
firewall problem or compatibility problem?

Hi Oliver,

How many files are in the directory that you're performing the ls on?
If there are thousands, the ls command may be having a difficult time
compiling the list of files. Can you try something like ls -Fals? Can you
perform other commands, like pwd or cd before trying the ls command? Do you
know the name of the file(s) that you're trying to retrieve, to be able to
just perform a get before doing the ls? If all these things fail, it could
be a number of things. Most of which are problems with the FTP Server
itself. I can't think of anything that would restrict you from using ls,
once you're already authenticated to FTP server except for access permission
restrictions, but you would see that when you log on. Good luck in
troubleshooting the issue.

Hi Don

Not huge because I can use Internet exporer and ftp from
there, I can see the files when logged in to this specific
site, but not when using command prompt in Dos.

I can do other commands like CD, but it's the listing of
the directories and files which isn't working and also get
files won't work. It hangs after issuing get command Our
firewall supplier are baffled.
