Default Formatting problem in data import from Excel using OPENROWSET - 02-02-2006 , 05:20 PM

While importing data from excel sheet using OPENROWSET query it converts
phone column/field as numeric and format it as scientific notation e.g.
"2.55E99" in SQL Server records even if the phone field in SQL Server is
varchar and I have already tried changing its format in Excel as Text.

Excel is the most stupid, over-intelligent software Microsoft ever has. It
works intelligently in the limited thinking of microsoft people and don't
give you any option to work as you want.

Eight years is a long period to make an application perfect but Microsoft
release new versions to make more money. Even the simple bugs/flaws are not
fixed since Excel 2003. I have lot of improvement in mind to make it better
and simple but they don't want to work actually. What their focus is to
release new version and make money thats it.

I have another problem in Excel 2000 four years ago but it didn't resolve
yet even in Excel 2003. That is if you want to type a fraction in Excel cell
it automatically converts it to Date irrespective of this how you formatted
the cell before or after. It remains as date and no one in the world can make
it fraction for example if you type "2/3" in Excel it converts it into 3 Mar
etc. and you can never change it to fraction value e.g. 0.6666 etc.

Hello Adil,

I am not sure you have asked a Q. To answer your last gripe I typed into
a cell in Excel 2000

=2/3

and the result was 0.66667

Which is what you want right?
