Default Exporting to a text file (no headers)...Define Column Crash - 03-15-2005 , 10:51 AM

Problem: Need to get information from either a table directly or a sql
statement to a fixed width txt file (no headers) . Every time I click the
"Define Columns..." it shuts down Enterprise Manager with no error message.
I try to execute the job but it fails due to "Invalid Column Length". I
have been able to get some jobs to work after while of deleting the
tasks...recreating the tasks...adding/removing headers but it is rare and
inconsistent.

Is this a known issue or is there a patch to fix this behavior and does
anyone have some ideas for a work around? Thanks in advance.

Can I hazard a guess that you have just installed SP3?

Morning Allan,

I have seen several posts related to this but they seem to be referring to
the number of columns or column length. I have tried simple and complex
queries with only a few fields and still get the EM crash when I click the
"Define Columns.." button within the Destination tab of a Data Pump task. I
have information coming from a SQL server to a fixed width text file (no
headers).

I have not been on this project long so I am trying to find out when the
problem started and when SP3 was applied to the system to find out if there
is a strong correlation.

Do you know of any other fixes than this one?

Thanks,

MPB

No, that is the problem I would be investigating first. Maybe
reregister the DTS dlls ?
