Default Excel Import - some data missing because of different Part Number formatting. - 11-02-2005 , 09:19 AM

I am trying to import a file where data in the Part Number Column can be
formatted as 123456 and/or 70-123456. I have tried formatting the column as
Text so it will import the literal string but it still ignores any numbers
which don't have the "-" sign in the number ?

Actuall that link does not help so much.

We found that if the numbers in the column are in one type (number or text)
it should be fine.

The way to check it is more important. You can copy that column to a new
place, if they are aligned in same way, it should be right. Otherwise, you
have to change them to same format (text or number).

Notes: by default in Excel, number is right aligned while text is left
aligned.

Hello Word 2003 memory Leakage,

So when you say "you have to change them to same format " how is that different
to the article? The Excel driver gets its MetaData thoughts by default from
reading the first 8 rows. If it therefore thinks that the column is an integer
and in row 23 you send a "AAA123" then it will cough.
