I'm examining a machine that I've inherited. DTS seems corrupt. Upon
selection of a new package, the error is issued "Error occurred during
creation of DTS Package". Then a message is issued "The DTS Designed has
been closed".

It's not, and the Designer has only six tasks, not the usual 20 plus.

Anybody seen this? Is a full install of SQL required?

This could be caused by a problem with one of the DTS dlls. A simple way to
resolve the problem is to install a new separate instance of SQL Server.
This will force a complete install of the DTS dlls. After doing this,
uninstall this new instance. The new DTS dlls will not be removed. You will
also need to install any service packs or hotfixes to this new installation
as well, before uninstalling it. This mehtod will not affect the existing
instance of SQL Server and should repair the DTS problem.
