How secure is DTS over the internet?

My company needs to upload data to our public website hosted by an
offsite hosting company.
We're using SQL Server 2000. We have some DTS Packages set up to do
the copy of data using SQL Server Authentication. How secure is this?
Is the user/password sent encrypted?

I see there's an advanced option to encrypt the data. The data we're
sending isn't really sensitive. It includes some retailer data -
names, addresses, phone numbers, but no credit card or SSN type of
information. But since we're sending over the internet should I set
the option to encrypt the data?
