Default dts export/import fail using specific servers with licensing error - 10-01-2004 , 08:15 AM

I have two basically identical sql 7 servers and two basically identical sql
2000 servers. We are moving from sql 7 on old boxes to sql 2000 on the new
boxes.

The DTS wizard works fine export/importing from one of the sql 2000 boxes to
either of the sql 7 servers. However, the other cant dts to either of the
sql 7 boxes, only the other sql 2000 box. It comes up with the error "The
license for the installation of SQL server on your source and destination
connections does not permit the use of DTS to transform data. See your
license agreement for more information".

I dont understand how this could be.. since both sql 2000 servers are the
same and so are both sql 7 boxes. I could understand if both sql 2000
servers wouldnt dts to sql 7, but thats not the case.

Any info appreciated.

More info requarding problem.

Found you can lookup installed license mode by using the control panel
licensing manager. The server that works for dts has this option in control
panel and is set for per processor = 1. The server that wont dts to sql 7
does not have this control panel applet at all. However, I did find the
specific sqllic.cpl file which can be access manually. It says its set to
per user = 0 ... which is total crap.

Any ideas how licensing could just go nuts all of the sudden?

You don't mention which editions of SQL Server are involved - possible
this is the issue:
INF: DTS/Replication Licensing for Desktop SQL Server 7.0
