Default DTS / DTSRun - Permissions - [SQL2K] - 07-17-2008 , 05:04 AM

Hello,

I know how to use DTSRun.exe.
I also can redistribute only the files for DTS (as indicated in redist.txt) for
a normal client, which does *not* have the full SQL Server Client installed,
and then the normal user can execute DTS-packages. This works.

But now we use a terminal server on which several users are working.
If all users would have the right to access the binn - directory, everyone
could i.e. start Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer. That is not what I want.

Which permissions in detail must I set on the DTS-files so that the user can
only execute DTS-packages?

----------------------------------------------
Dateiname Beschreibung
----------------------------------------------
sqlresld.dll Satellite-Ressourcen-DLL-Loader
dtsffile.dll In DTS integrierter OLE DB-Flatfileprovider
dtsffile.rll DTS-Ressourcendatei
dtspkg.dll DTS-Paket
dtspkg.rll DTS-Ressourcendatei
dtspump.dll DTS-Datapump
dtspump.rll DTS-Ressourcendatei
axscphst.dll DTS-ActiveX-Skript-Host
axscphst.rll DTS-Ressourcendatei
dtsrun.exe Befehlszeilenprogramm zum Ausführen eines DTS-Pakets
dtsrun.rll DTS-Ressourcendatei
sqlunirl.dll SQL Server-Unicode/ANSI-Übersetzungsschicht
custtask.dll DTS-Datei für benutzerdefinierte Tasks
custtask.rll DTS-Ressourcendatei für benutzerdefinierte Tasks

Thank You

Joachim

Hi Joachim,
I noticed (I checked in my Win2003 terminal server /w SQL2K full
Client installation) that the security permissions on Binn folder
(inheritated from C:\program files) match:
- Read & Execute
- List Folders Contents
- Read
I would try to deny <List Folder Contents> on the entire Program Files
folder (this should affect subfolders as well) and placing a shortcut
of the .exe you want'em to use on All User/desktop profile folder...
Alterntively you can try deny read & execute on binn folder except for
the files you mentioned above...

Hope this helps
Matteo
