Default DTS Bug? Server name not listed. - 05-03-2005 , 10:03 AM

I'm trying to create a simple DTS package to copy some data from Server1 to
Server2,
but Server2 doesn't appear in the Server dropdown list in the OLE DB
Provider's Server list in the DTS Designer, even though I can see the box in
EM, can query it in QA, and can ping it.

It doesn't matter which server I create the DTS package on - I get the same
result.
Linking the server didn't help either and I tried from both directions.

I have exited and restarted EM and also tried this on another server with
the same results.

Has anyone seen this behavior before?

I am not sure which exact dialog box you are referring to, but are you able
to type the name of the server, and carry on?

It does work if I type in the fully-qualified name: MySQLSERVER.Mydomain.com
It is odd that it does not appear in the list though; do you know why it
does not?

To see the dialog box in question:
Open DTS Designer,
click the Micrososft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server icon,
the Server dropdown list defaults to (local) - this is the list I'm
referring to.

Thanks for the response.

I have seen this happening myself. Even though DTS designer is
integrated with Enterprise Manager, it is different application and may
not behave exactly same. Also, providing the full qualified server name
is the best practice as it resolves faster.
