Default Desktop SQL and DTS - 06-17-2004 , 08:49 PM

In a table comparing the features offered by the different versions of
SQL 2000, I saw that in the row for DTS feature it said "Deployment
Only" in the Desktop column. All the other editions said "Supported".

What does that mean??

The desktop version is the engine only, AKA MSDE. There are no management
tools, such as Enterprise Manager so effective development is precluded. It
does however include the DTS DLLs so if you have a package you can store and
run a package on MSDE, but you really need Enterprise Manager to build them.
In theory you could build a package through code only, but this would be an
extremely steep learning curve, and not very practical.

Thanks. I also have the Developer Edition so I have the client tools.

From your description, I know that the DTS functions in MSDE are
NOTcrippled.

Thanks again
