Default Copying 2005 to 2000 - 09-23-2008 , 10:49 AM

I'm sure the answer is no because you can't look up, only down, but I want to
make sure

I have a SQL 2000 server and a SQL 2005 server. I need to copy a 2005 view
into the 2000 server (as a table). I was thinking of doing a DTS push, but
it would be much better if the 2000 server can do a pull because the 2000 has
to do other functions with that copy of the table.

Is there a way for a 2000 server to copy data from a 2005 server?

ngan,

Sure, you can pull data in to SQL Server 2000 from SQL Server 2005. You
could do a DTS pull from 2005 or you could create a linked server and query
through the link to get the data from the other server. (What you cannot do
is restore a SQL Server 2005 database to SQL Server 2000.)

If any datatypes are different between the servers, you will need to resolve
those issues in your package or query, of course, but it should all be
doable.

I was unable to "pull" from 2005 to 2000 where the dts package originates
from 2000.

Am I missing something? I want a DTS package to originate from sql 2000
that connects to a sql 2005 server and copies a view (as a table) into 2000.
