Default Connecting to a remote SQL Server - 09-12-2004 , 03:32 AM

On a remote server we have to instances of MSSQL Server 2000, one of them
being the default (local) the other has the name SN/EL4E, where SN is the
name of the server.
In Enterprise Manager on my desktop I have a Server Registration for (local)
having as name the IP address of the remote server.
I want now the create a Server Registration for the second SQL server. What
name should I use?
Thank you very much,
Dan

Where does DTS fit in here?

In any event

Have you tried registering as SN/EL4E ?
Have you tried as <IP address>\<Instance Name> ?

Yes, with both SN = the computer name (just a try!) and the"full server
name" (DNS) i.e.: "SD.abc.de.net"

Yes, if <instance name> is "SN/EL4E" which is used by SQL Server Service
Manager under "Server".
Is there another <instance name>?
Thanks again,
Dan
