Default Business Intelligence Development Studio Not Available - 06-04-2008 , 10:22 AM

Hello all,

Please forgive me if I've posted this to the wrong group but I figured
this was a start!! I installed SQL Server 2005 last year on my Dell
laptop. Now I need to create SSIS packages. Therefore I installed
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. On a co-worker's machine Business
Intelligence Development Studio shows up under Program, Microsoft SQL
Server 2005. Mine does not. I opened VS2005 directly and tried to
open a SSIS package and I got a lot of numbers/letters, it made no
sense. My co-worker was able to open VS2005 then open a SSIS package
successfully. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!

Cosandra

Hello Cosandra:
You are in the right neighborhood, but knocking on the wrong door. But
that's OK 'cuase we're all friendly here and will try to help.

BIDS (Business Intelligence Development Studio) is really just a scaled down
version of Visual Studio 2005 with different project types available.
Depending on your edition of VS (Stnadard, I'm guessing?) you may not have
all the project types installed to decipher .dtsx files properly.

Try this: go through the SQL Server 2005 install routine again on your
laptop. Pay carefull attention to the Installed Compoments" section. Make
sure you select the BIDS option. (The SSIS option will install the server
component of Integration Services, allowing you to run packages from SQL
Server.)

BTY, there's an SSIS forum two doors down.
