Default Beginner question: Connecting to Oracle via SSIS - 12-11-2006 , 04:19 AM

I have no experience of Oracle and have a little SQL Server knowledge.
I am trying to connect to a Oracle 9i database managed by a (not very
good) external vendor and hence have little knowledge of its inner
workings.

I have got as far as adding a new datasource in SSIS and would be
grateful if someone could advise me which provide I should select -
guessing 'OracleClient Data Provider'. Also, I have the hostname,
database name, username and password and am wondering how I squeeze
this information into the three fields 'Server Name', 'User Name' and
'Password'. Thirdly, I would be grateful to know which ports I need to
open up so I can connect.

I am researching this as you read this and will reply if I find the
answer first.

Many thanks

Jon

You will need to install the oracle client services then create a tns
name entry - that is the entry that you put in the server.
