Default Access Violation/MMC.EXE failure - 12-18-2003 , 05:16 PM

Could any of you folks please tell me how I can get the hotfix mentioned in KB814113? I tried going thru 'Contact Microsoft' and although I have the license number for my client's SQL Server 2K package, I don't have the foggiest on where to find the PID......the contact form conveniently left off SS2K in the 'How to find your PID'! No, I'm NOT going to drop $99.00 in Microsoft's hands to fix a problem they created......

My client is less than thrilled that I am unable to create a DTS package for them since MMC.EXE fails like a BIG DOG after having loaded SP3a

Thanks Any & All!

If you are running into a known problem with a Microsoft product, charges
are usually not incurred for obtaining the fix. You can call product
support and more than likely you will get the appropriate fix at no charge.

From the KB you mention-

"This fix has been included with the security patch for Microsoft
Security Bulletin MS03-031."

Security patches are of course freely available online, so download and
apply that patch to all servers (and clients) and this should sort you
out.

If you want the hotfix anyway, try phoning PSS and saying up front you
want a hotfix, before they get into the spiel. They wont charge for a
bug anyway of course.

Thanks Darren -

Like most of us - putting in wa-a-a-a-a-y-y-y-y too many hours......I'll go get the security patch and try from there!

Happy Holidays,

Bob

Thanks Rand -

As Darren pointed out, I overlooked the obvious - its included in the security patch mentioned in the very same KB article. I appreciate your help though.

Take Care,

Bob
