Default Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 cluster and MSDTC - 01-07-2009 , 01:24 PM

Does anyone know the proper way to install MSDTC on a windows 2008 cluster?
In Windows 2003 and SQL 2005, I would just put the MSDTC resource in the
group with the Quorum, but I can't do that in Windows 2008. Do I need an
extra shared drive to install MSDTC in a Windows 2008 cluster?

Thanks!

Sorry, I'm a newbie to clustering. We also have a SQL Server 2008 standard
cluster on Windows 2008 64-bit, 2-node Node with Disk Majority cluster.
Two services:
SQL08-MSDTC
SQL08-SQL-CRG
Storage (all ISCSI):
Witness (quorum) disk, Volume Q: Cluster disk 3 5 GB
SQL08-SQL-CRG, Volume E: Cluster disk 1 100 GB
SQL08-MSDTC, Volume N: Cluster disk 4 5 GB

So following your (blog) advice, in Failover Cluster Management I can go the
SQL08-SQL-CRG service, and click on Add a resource/More resources/2 Add
Distributed Transaction Coordinator. This will put the DTC resource in the
targeted SQL group -- correct???

Then, how do I change the DTC log file to be dependent on a group disk? Or
is it already dependent since the MSDTC service has its own cluster disk
(Cluster Disk 4)? Or do I change MSDTC to move the log file to Cluster Disk
4???
