Hi, For clustered servers we only see Named Pipes and TCP/IP as available Protocols. VIA is disabled. Are there any other protocols that we can run on a Cluster? Can we use Multiprotocol? On our un-clustered servers we can use Multiprotocol and using it we can see both the Windows account and the SQL id that a connection is using. Is this available on clustered servers too using some protocol other than Multiprotocol? Thanks Chris Wood |

On current releases, most multi-protocol functions are available through TCP/IP. Windows attempts to establish an SSID context on all Windows to Windows IP socket connections. This allows Windows NT authentication over IP. Due to the cluster configuration requirements, only TCP/IP and Named Pipes are supported protocols. Multiprotocol is not supported on named instances (all cluster instances act like named instances). Geoff N.
