Default What HP Server Your company Use for SQL Cluster? - 03-23-2009 , 01:35 PM

I was asked to look for clustering SQL to increase availability. I saw HP DL380 G5 storage server but was told that it was not optimized to run SQL on this unit. I just wanted to see you you can share your HP cluster server model for SQL and the spec if you have at work. It would be something at entry to mid level so the cost is afforable. We have 3 databases b/w 50 GB to 150 GB each; 2/3 of the data are images. The growth is about 30% each year.
Thanks.

The 380/385 and 580/585 series are very good choices for SQL Server. Which
one you need depends on the size of the workload.

Dunno what "Not optimized for SQL" means, but my best guess is "I don't make
enough commission on that unit".

We use 585's and 785's, they work. The most important consdieration will be
shared storage, SAN or DAS.

We have a fair number of G3/G4/G5 servers, in use for database, application
and web, along with Citrix. The only problems we ever have with them is the
occasional part failure!
Probably 'not optimised for enough commission', yes.
