Default Web apps cannot connect after password change/ failover - 05-18-2004 , 01:23 PM

Here's an odd one; I was changing the password on a 2-node
failover cluster (via enterprise manager, of course) when
it asked to restart SQL Server (aka a failover). A normal
operation. But, after the failover completed, I was unable
to connect to SQL Server via web apps. I was however able
to connect (using the same name/password as a web app
would use) using Q.A. and Enterprise Manager.

After failingover one additional time, everything worked
just fine.

Any ideas on why only web apps could not connect after the
first failover??? This one has me completely baffled.

TIA,

F

I am not sure what error message you were getting, or if the web
application uses NT authentication, but if you got teh Login failed for
user 'null' when the application tried to connect, it could be because the
password change had not replicated to the DC that was being used for
validation by the SQL Server. This could explain why it started working
after teh second failover.

I have seen similar problems before with password changes.

Thank you for the reply. I should have mentioned that we were trying to
connect using a SQL Server login, which worked just fine from Query
Analyzer, but not from and web apps.
