I need to create a SCSI shared storae device to use witj my cluster.

Nice and clear article, but how do you prevent clusterdisk corruption?
Since vmware 4.5 this had become a promblem for me. The only way I could
solve this problem was by using iSCSI disks.

I had to throw my questions in here too, since this is exactly what I'm trying to do. -- Thanks in advance ---

The techrepublic.com article has you download a virtual scsi drive from http://www.robbastiaansen.nl, but he is no longer offering the virtual scsci disk. He says on this page

http://www.robbastiaansen.nl/vmware/vm32w2kcluster.html ,

the process doesn't work with vmware 4.5 (which is what I have.)

1) Option 1 - Since vmware 4.0 is still available on eBay, I was thinking about purchasing it there if I could get a copy of the virtual scsi disk download. Is there anywhere else I could download the disk you reference in the article, or is it possible to recreate it? (Is it just a regular virtual disk with the settings mentioned in the article?)

2) Option 2 - What is the iSCSI technique? Are there any drawbacks to doing it that way?

Thanks
Greg Steele

There nothinbg special about the virtual scsi disk. Its just an old plain
vmware 3 disk file.

With vmware 4.5 you can create a plain disk by choosing 'allocate disk space
now' when you create a virual disk. The rest of the procedure is the same.
But the shared disks can get corrupted during a failover.

iSCSI is SCSI over IP. There a two drawbacks: an extra virtual machine and
pre alfa linux software. I am in the process of setting up a website on
this: http://eratosthenes.xs4all.nl/vmwarecluster/

Me too. Have you managed to get it working? How?

Best regards
