Default VM Ware cluster with SQL EE Failover fails to start SQL on second node` - 02-25-2004 , 03:48 PM

andrew.collins (AT) quest (DOT) com
I have a Windows 2000 advanced 2 node cluster setup. I
used VM Ware to build both nodes and I have virtual SCSI
for the quorum and shared disk

I successfully installed SQL to the cluster. However I
did have to install to each node separately since a "race
condition occurred" when I attempted to install to both
nodes at once

SQL seems to be fine on node 1 however if I shut down the
server to initiate a fail over to the second server, SQL
server and the agent fails to start on the second node.
If I force the resource to come online it fails. If I
force the resources to come online once the second node is
back on, they come online but on the 1st node...

I received event viewer errors and the SQL services fail
to start on the second node

1069 - Cluster resource '<cluster resource>' failed.
1082 - The Microsoft Clustering Service failed restore a
registry key for resource <resource Name> when it was
brought online. This error code was <NTSTATUS>. Some
changes may be lost.

well to coin the typical Microsoft answer ...... take off the VmWare and replicate the problem.

you also have to provide additional info on the server/scsi setup
