We are running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition [on
Windows 2003 EE] on our PRD SQL Server Cluster. We have
two nodes, PRD1 and PRD2. PRD1 will have one Virtual
Server [and corresponding named instance], and PRD2 will
have 3 Virtual Servers [and corresponding named instances].
So, my question is: what are the SQL Server licensing
issues with running multiple Virtual Servers on a single
physical server? |
Have a look at the link below, especially the whitepaper and FAQ on
licensing SQL -

For a definitive answer contact you local MS office who should have a
licensing department.
My take is that is that if this is Per Proc you will need to licence
both nodes for all procs. If using per Per Server then licence both
servers. Because this is Enterprise Edition you do not need to worry
about the number of instances per node as Enterprise Edition allows
multiple instances, where as Standard means you must licence each
instance.
