Default Unistall/Reinstall of Cluster Services - 04-23-2004 , 01:56 PM

I have a need to unistall cluster services. This is on a Win2ksp4 server
with Sqlserver2ksp3. Currently only one side of the cluster is setup. No
failover server is configured at this point. I am testing on a sandbox
server. After having all the software installed and working, I uninstalled
cluster services. This obviously breaks sqlserver. I then reinstall cluster
servcies to the same name and virtual ip address but sqlserver is still
dead. Can I do this or is a full reinstall of sqlserver going to be
required?

Thanks, John Hubbard

John,

I think you will need to re-install SQL again. As specified in the KB below,
when you evict a node and re-join it you have to re-install SQL. I have also
included other KB that you might find useful.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=225092 Evicting a Node in a
Cluster Can Cause Problems in SQL 6.5 or 7.0

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290991 HOW TO: Manually remove SQL Server
2000 default, named, or virtual instance

Hope this helps.

You may be able to salvage the data if your .mdf and .ldf files are still
intact on the data partition. FYI, once you get it back, you can look at
the SQL Server service and see that it is dependant on the cluster service.
Take out the cluster service and the SQL service(s) break.
