Default Two server need to Clustered - 02-10-2004 , 06:23 PM

I have two servers, one server was set up with Windows
2000 Advanced Server that was clustered as a stand-alone
and installed SQL Server 2000 Enterprise with a virtual
name. I purchased another server and need to cluster this
server with my first server. Both server have SQL Server
2000 Enterprise Edition with a virtual name.

What procedures do I need to complete to cluster the two
servers together?

Thank You,

Dan

Before you start anything, for a production environment,
you need to make sure that the ENTIRE SOLUTION is in the
Windows Catalog. You can't take two different servers,
some disks, hook them together, and call them a cluster.
The servers will need to be the same (make, model, etc.),
hooked up to a SAN or DAS (not NAS) solution that is part
of the solution or on the multi-cluster list of the
Windows Catalog.

For details, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;327518 which is a SQL article, but has links
to the relevant Windows ones.

Once you make sure your HW is supported, then you just
install the OS bits, cluster those, and then cluster SQL
Server.
