Default # of supported failover nodes - 07-01-2004 , 04:55 AM

Hi all!
how many failover nodes are supported by SQL SRV 2k on a windows server 2k3
EE cluster?
I have only found information about 4 failover nodes on 64 edition of sql.
Tks in adv.

SQL2000 supports whatever the OS supports. On Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition that would be 8

SQL 2000 supports a maximum of 4 nodes in a cluster.

I agree but at Tech Ed 2004 USA someone from Microsoft said what I wrote, in
a SQL 2005 presentation. Since I have not tested it. I am going with what
the MS Employee said at Tech Ed.

When I asked this question earlier, I got a direct reply from the
Microsoftie who was program manager of the install team. 4 nodes is all you
get with SQL Server 2000. It is due to a limit in the installer, not a SQL
cluster limit per se.

SQL Server 2000 Failover Clustering (32-bit) supports four nodes on Windows 2003 Enterprise Ed cluster server (even though Windows 2003 EE supports 8 nodes).

SQL Server 2000 Failover Clustering (64-bit) supports upto eight nodes on Windows 2003 EE (64 bit) and Windows 2003 DataCenter (64-bit) server cluster.

Rod --- you said "I agree but at Tech Ed 2004 USA someone from Microsoft said what I wrote, in
a SQL 2005 presentation. Since I have not tested it. I am going with what
the MS Employee said at Tech Ed."

--- SQL 2005 presentation ==> Yukon - our next release. You go the right information. i.e. in SQL 2005, we will support 8 nodes.
