Default SQL2005 SP3 - 02-02-2009 , 09:21 AM

Hello,

I have two node SQL2005 Failover cluster. I'm planning to upgrade this
cluster with SQL2005 SP3. The instructions from Microsoft are quite vague on
this matter. It says that SP3 should be applied on the active node first and
the second node(s) has to be rebooted(only) later. The thing I'm not clear
about is - Do I have to run SP3 installation on the second node once I'm done
with the first one and manually fail it over to a second one? If somebody
have basic steps/order of applying SP3 please let me know.

SQL 2005 SP3 installer is cluster aware. The installer must start on the
same node that is running the instance but it patches all nodes in a cluster
at the same time.

Just be aware that all components for SQL Server are not cluster aware and
need to be patched separately. If you have installed SSIS, Reporting
Servers or the tools then you need to run the upgrade on each node to patch
those components.
