Default SQL Virtual IP pingable on local subnet only - 02-06-2009 , 07:54 AM

Morning

I have setup a new Windows two node cluster for SQL Server 2005.
Everything works with fail over etc and I can connect to the SQL
Server with Managment Studio on the local sub net of the cluster. But
on a different subnet the SQL virtual IP is not pingable. Have a
setup something incorrectly.

Thanks

What do you mean by a different subnet? Is this a different private network
where your SQL Server is connected? This could be a network issue.
Otherwise, check your Surface Area Configuration to check that remote
connections are enabled for TCP/IP

Sometimes routing can do wierd things with clustering. When you ping a
virtual IP, the physical IP does the actual reply. Some versions of ICMP
(ping) cannot handle that. Also some routers or firewalls balk at that
operation. Cna you connect a SQL client application to the virtual IP?
