You wouldn't want AWE at all, even for 1 instance.

Quote from MS web:

Windows 2000 without AWE enabled can use only up to 4 GB of physical
memory. By default, 2 GB of memory is dedicated to the operating system
and 2 GB of memory to the application. With a /3GB switch in the
Boot.ini used by the operating system, an application such as SQL Server
can access up to 3 GB of memory, and the operating system is reduced to
1 GB of memory.

So the question is should or should not use /3GB switch? Must set the
switch before the sql server installation? Or can set it afterwards?

Yes you can use the switch. As long as you have over 1 GB of physical RAM.
It can be done before or after the install of SQL, I always do it after
though.

Cheers,

Rod

Yes you want to use the /3GB switch but that has nothing to do with AWE per
say. Just don't set AWE and you will be all set.
