Default SQL Server Clustering failover problem. - 03-16-2005 , 09:25 PM

Hi all,

I have a SQL Server cluster running which one database server machine is
active and one database server machine is standby.

But once I tried to test the failover, I have found that both database
server will claim it as active. Which the case is one database server will
operate an application process and one database server will operate a
database process. Due to the dependencies of the process, the whole cluster
services will go malfunctioning.

Right now, I don't have a clear idea how to fix it? Is the problem with the
active directory or DNS which case the cluster malfunction?

Or is there anybody face this scenario before which can share? Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

Hi

To find out which node is active, check in Cluster Administrator which node
owns the SQL Server resources. Only one can.If 2 are showing for the same
SQL Server instance, it means that Windows Clustering is not functioning
correct.
If there are node failover errors, look in the Windows Event Log. IT will
tell you the errors and might give you better information.

Whilst you are at it, check that your hardware is on the Windows Hardware
Compatibility List.

We need for detailed information on your cluster setup to be able to give a
better solution to your problem.

Hi Carlos,

Could you give a little more detail about...

"But once I tried to test the failover, I have found that both database
server will claim it as active. Which the case is one database server will
operate an application process and one database server will operate a
database process. Due to the dependencies of the process, the whole cluster

As I understand it your are saying you have two instances of SQL Server
installed to the cluster,

--> Application instance in one of your cluster groups
--> Database process instance in another cluster group

Is this correct?
