Default sql server cluster and ms exchange 2000 - 08-12-2003 , 08:29 AM

Hi!
can anyone help me with ms exchange installation on
Win2000
active/passive failover cluster? There will be 2 nodes
(identical
servers) with W2K Advanced Server and SQL Server
Ent.Edit. 2000, MS
exchange should be on the "passive" machine. Is this
correct? I mean
placing exchange on the passive machine...Are there any
risks or
barriers?
Thank you very much!

Hello Gabriel,

I understand that you will have a two node cluster with SQL Server 2000 on
one node. With just SQL Server virtual server, you can call this an
Active-Passive configuration. The node that makes SQL resources available
being the active node and the other node that is idle (and is waiting for
failover ) being the passive. Yes, you will install Exchange on the Passive
node. But note that once you have Exchange installed on the second node,
your configuration will no longer be Active-Passive. It will be an
Active-Active configuration since now each node in the cluster is making
cluster resources available (one node having SQL resources and second node
having Exchange).
NOTE: In this configuration, each node must be able to run its own
resources and the resources of BOTH nodes in the event of a failover.
Depending on the resources and the capacity of the nodes, performance may
suffer when a failover occurs and a single node is running all resources.

For step-by-step information to implement Exchange on a Microsoft Windows
2000-based cluster, please refer to
