Default SQL Server 2008 Cluster installation - 11-03-2009 , 01:41 PM

Hello!

We are preparing to install SQL Server 2008 Active/Active Cluster on
Windows 2008. We are currently contemplating whether we need a dedicated
drive for msdtc resource, etc. I was wondering if somebody can recommend any
good articles/white papers with step by step instructions/best practices
starting from OS installation/configuration and covering SQL Server part as
well.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Igor

Hi Igor,

You have 2 choices.

1. Placing MS DTC in quoram drive. Since the quoram is heart of the cluster
it is better not to configure MSDTC in quoram.
2. Placing MS DTC in backup drive will be a ideal choice because the other
drives like data & log are critical for SQL Server in terms of availablity,
performance etc.,

Thanks & Regards
Balaji

See if this helps:
http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/geoffh/ar...-Clusters.aspx

I wrote it for SQL 2005, but the same reasons apply to SQL 2008.

SQL Server magazine had a great article that describes the process of setting
up SQL Server 2008 cluster. It was in the September issue:
