Default SQL Mail on a Cluster - 12-23-2003 , 07:54 AM

I understand that in order to create the Outlook MAPI Profile for SQL to
use, you must log into the physical server with the service account that SQL
uses to startup. My question is: Do both of the servers need to remain
logged in under this account with Outlook running for this function?

Thanks,
JBailey

I gave up on SQL mail on a cluster. I prefer xp_smtp_sendmail from
www.sqldev.net. It is not a drop in replacement, but it has several
advantages, the biggest being that it is not MAPI dependant.

That really didnt answer my question, which was:

Do both of the servers need to remain
logged in under this account with Outlook running for this function?

Shouldn't have to unless you are using a non-Exchange mail server. Please
refer to the following articles:

263556 INF: How to Configure SQL Mail
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=263556

315886 INF: Common SQL Mail Problems
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315886

Keep in mind that SQL Mail is not fully supported on a cluster since MAPI
is not cluster aware. You may run into configuration and/or usage issues:

298723 BUG: SQL Mail Not Fully Supported for Use in Conjunction with Cluster
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=298723

Hope this helps,
