Default sql clustering email address - 06-12-2004 , 11:35 AM

I'm trying to setup a active/passive sql cluster for the first time.
I have node and cluster ip's and names.

Then there is this thing called the sql instance ip.

I am struggling to understand how that works, along with the virtual
server name and instance name. I am assuming that the instance name
can be randomly chosen - what about the virual name? Does it have to
be bound/existing somewhere already? Similarly with the sql ip address
- should that be bound somewhere already?
The installation bombs out very quickly with the rather generic
message 'setup failed to perform required information on the cluster
nodes.', and the log is not helpful. So - I'm guessing it has
something to do with naming and ip addresses.
I can't seem to find complete information on this, so if someone could
explain it to me, that would be tops!
Thanks,
-emqn

Every application needs an IP and Name for client to attach to. SQL calls
its name an instance, and its IP is the sql instance IP.

Watch these two webcasts and all your questions should be answered:
