I am new to trying to run a cluster. I need to know if I can cluster Exchange 2000 along with SQL 2000 such that they both run on an active box with a shared standy server (2 Servers, all running on A, both failover to B) can I run two servers, one with Exchange and one with SQL such that if either fails they failover to the other (2 Servers, A runs exchange, B runs SQL, if they fail they failover to the other)?

Well, first you need a very heavy server to support SQL
and Exchange, and even if you have this kind oh server,
Microsoft don't recommends install SQL and Exchange in the
same enviroment.

You should NOT place Microsoft Exchange Server and SQL Server on the same
cluster. First and foremost, both are mission-critical applications. You do
NOT
want to have one starve the resources of the other. There are also some
potential conflicts in things like memory models and versions of MDAC or
versions of the Microsoft Search
functionality.

Tip : If both SQL Server and Exchange must exist on the same cluster,
install Exchange first and then install SQL Server 2000. There are certain
shared resources, such as the underlying Microsoft Search service.
Modifications to one application could negatively affect the other.

It is highly recommended NOT to have Microsoft Exchange Server and SQL
Server on the same cluster

Thanks ... I had seen one of your earlier posts that I assumed meant I
was able to cluster these two products. I had been unable to find, in
my reading, anything that suggests I cannot or should not set this type
of cluster up. Your suggestion would then be to run 2 clusters to
support this?

You are most welcome. Yes, my suggestion will be to have seperate clusters
for SQL and Exchange. i.e Two node cluster for SQL Server and another two
node cluster for Exchange.
