Setup Failed to Perform Required Operations on the Cluster Nodes

I try to setting up a cluster on two Dell with EMC SAN drives with no
success. I have tried everything it's a nightmare.

Also, you cannot install SQL 2000 if the cluster node is a Terminal Server
host.

Yes i know about the KB815431. I also read inside this newsgroup the comment
from Uttam Parui:
"You need to create the named pipe alias only if you are installing a Named
instance of SQL Server 2000 virtual server on Windows 2000 MSCS. For default
instance, you
do not need to create the alias.

I have checked DNS, Services, .. no success.
I only want to install a two node Win2K3 Cluster nothing more.

From the sqlstp.log, the error that the setup is failing is

A search for "GetLastError returned: 50044" in Microsoft Knowledge Base will point to

Error Message: "Setup failed to perform the required operation on the cluster nodes"

This KB has the exact error message.

As per the KB the workaround is

WORKAROUND
Install a single node virtual server by running the Setup program on any node of the cluster. For more information, see the "How to install a one-node failover cluster
(Setup)" topic in SQL Server 2000 Books Online.
Add the second node to the virtual server by running the Setup program again on the node you used in step 1. For more information, see the "How to add nodes to an
existing virtual server (Setup)" topic in SQL Server 2000 Books Online.
Repeat step 2 for any number of nodes that you want to add to the virtual server.

Now i tried to add the second node to the virtual server with no success.

Should i have to update to SP3 bevor i can join other machines to the
virtual Cluster server ?

Congratulations on installing it on a single node.

From the error message, it appears the install is failing during the MDAC portion of the setup. I am not an MDAC expert but have seen these issues before. I would install
MDAC on the second node and then try setup again to add the second node.

If you are installing SP3 on the single node SQL 2K cluster and then run setup to add node 2, remember that you will need to run SP3 on node 2 too.

The situation now:
Both cluster nodes are running......

But i'm not satisfied because every time when i install a second or
additional node i have to kill the sqlredis process - after than the
installation continue and end with success.

I downloaded MDAC 2.8 and installed that first thinking that maybe
sqlredis.exe would figure it out, but the same behavior.

What could cause the sqlredis process to hang ? After than i try to install
SP3 with the same situation.

Regarding why sqlredis is hanging ? When you run the setup, are you stopping any services or programs OR are you doubl-clicking setup.exe and letting it run. One issue
may be due to some conflicting services. I would stop any unnecessary services on both nodes, anything that may be using MDAC, etc and then try the setup.
