Default SQL 2000 Enterprise Install Error - 07-21-2003 , 02:48 PM

I'm installing SQL2k Ent on a 2-node (active/passive)
cluster. I have 2 drive arrays in a Dell Powervault 221S
drive tower, and 2 Dell PowerEdge 2500 server. MSCS
installed without a problem, and failover works fine.
When I install SQL, I get to the path installation
selection screen, and I keep getting an error message
indicating that I don't have a C: drive on each node. (I
do). I have file and printer sharing enabled on both
servers, and I have a separate disk (drive array) for my
quorum. I tried to move the quorum disk into it's own
separate Resource Group, but when I tried that, it wanted
to take all of the resources with it. When I tried to move
the Cluster Disk (data disk) into its own Resouce Group, I
could; but the message still appears at the installation
path screen. Any help would be appreciated!

Scott-

The following is taken from Windows 2000 Clustering and Load Balancing
Handbook by Joseph M. Lamb:

'When you select NEXT to continue, you may receive an error that says "The
drive chosen for the program file installation path C: is not valid on all
nodes of the cluster. Choose another drive to install the program files."
This message appears if the cluster node you are using for installation
cannot contact other nodes within the cluster through an RPC (remote
procedure call) connection. This is typically caused by a missing file and
print sharing component on one of the nodes within the cluster. To correct
this error, enable file and print sharing on all nodes within the cluster.'

So maybe try to uninstall and reinstall file and print sharing? Make sure it
is bound to the correct adaptors. Or use a resource kit tool to test RPC
connectivity.
