If you evict the 2003 node, upgrade SQL to SP4 and then add the 2003 node,
will that work?

Have you tried installing using the SA password and not Windows
Authentication?

I added a node to my cluster and now I can't install Service Pack 4. I am
running one node on Windows 2000 Advanced Server and the new node on Windows
2003 Advanced Server. This is an Active\Passive cluster. When I add the
node everything works fine. It is when I try to apply the service pack that
I run into problems.

I start the setup for the service pack and get to a screen that prompts me
for Remote Information. I am required to enter an id, password and domain.
When I enter a valid id, password and domain I get the following error.

"The Logon Account Cannot Be Validated. Verify that the username and
password entered are correct.
The Target Principle is incorrect."

Now if I enter an invalid id or password or domain the first part of the
message is the same but the last part now says "The Logon Attempt Failed".
So at least it knows when I put in a bad id or password.

At this point I can go no further than to cancel the install.

At this point I cannot failover to the new node because it will not let me
run SQL 2000 without service packs on Windows 2003. It just hangs in Cluster
Administrator showing "Online Pending".

Does anyone know if I can install the service pack on the new node somehow?

I have done this on this cluster before with the old node and had no problems.

Has anyone run into this before? If so what did you do?
